Professional music producers generally capture studio recordings in a 24-bit, high-fidelity audio format. Before the originals, or "masters" in industry parlance, are pressed onto CDs or distributed to digital sellers like Apple's iTunes, they're downgraded to 16-bit files.
From there, the audio can be compressed further in order to minimize the time the music will take to download or to allow it to be streamed on-the-fly over the internet.
Why don't record labels at least give retailers the option of working from higher-grade recordings?

Well probably because record labels are in it for the money and not necessarily for the music, why do you think most current artists have changed their game plans? Because those before them have been glamoured and robbed by record executives. Another answer could be, because if they offered high quality music downloads, then buying the Compact Discs for better quality music would now truly be voided, but who buys CDs these days?

Interestingly enough, there are some music acts that are in support of this change, and have thus broken free of the record labels to oversee their own distribution of their music, and have found a great niche in selling premium quality music downloads. Unlike a normal Mac, the Xserve has redundant power supplies, it can be remotely monitored, and it screws into a mounted rack. Those space-saving racks help business customers maintain clusters of networked machines -- and they also protect the servers they contain against damage. That's an important consideration in the earthquake-prone Bay Area, where a number of Xserve customers are located.

That's why Apple's solution was so head-scratching: It suggested Xserve customers instead go buy Mac Pros or Mac Minis. Both can run Mac OS X Server, and Apple noted that the Mac Pro's processor is faster than the Xserve's.

That's true -- but those aren't rack servers. Hold a Mac Mini and an Xserve side-by-side and the comparison is laughable.

Back to the debate, as it currently stands, apparently Google's Android is neck and neck with Apple's iOS according to the results of the Neilsen survey on demographic. This is very interesting to me, however, i still believe that if Apple can only break free from their ball and chain, AT&T, they will most likely gain the lead in this arena.

Who would have thought that the iPhone would be the choice of women, while Android phones showed as most favorable amongst men and those seeking to make the upgrade from a regular cell phone joining the rest of us smartphone robots between the ages of 35 and 54.

Very interesting, but when you look at the price differences between the two, for most people that aren't interested in the smartphone's OS, the decision normally boils down what is economical while delivering more than the average cell phone... take a look for yourself...

Most Desired Operating Systems (OS):
When mobile users who planned to upgrade to a smartphone in the next year were asked about their next phone, Apple’s iOS and Android were tied for “most desired” operating system.

• Among users planning to get a new smartphone, current smartphone owners showed a preference for the Apple iPhone (35 percent), while 28 percent of both smartphone and featurephone planned smartphone upgraders indicated they wanted a device with an Android operating system as their next mobile phone.
• Featurephone owners planning to get a smartphone are less likely to have made up their mind about the OS they will choose: 25 percent were “not sure” what their next desired OS might be compared to 13 percent of smartphone owners. Those over 55 were markedly less certain than younger mobile users, with 27.8 saying they weren’t sure what kind of device they wanted next, compared to 12.2 percent of those 18 to 24.
• Apple’s iPhone and devices with the Android operating system were the “most desired” among likely smartphone upgraders, with Apple showing a slight lead among those age 55+ , 18 to 24, and 25 to 34.

Now rivals such as RIM (Reasearch In Motion), Samsung, Dell, and Lenovo has decided to challenge the iPad's crown. As if the Amazon Kindle wasn't enough... The funny thing is that now consumers will truly be able to benefit from the war that may start to brew for the market share, which hopefully will push Apple to once again lower it's price on the iPads (sorry for all of you early birds). Dell Streak

The Dell Streak comes loaded with a fast processor, GPS and a 5-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash. Users can connect to the Internet over 3G or Wi-Fi.

The Streak was one of the first Android tablets to hit the market, and it paid a price for being early: The gadget launched on Android 1.6 (known as "Donut"), several iterations behind the current state-of-the-art Android 2.2 ("Froyo"). And Google has warned that even its most recent Android operating system isn't optimized yet for anything but smartphones.

Dell founder Michael Dell showed off a prototype of a seven-inch tablet recently at Oracle's OpenWorld summit in San Francisco, but details were slim. Currently available for purchase only on Dell's website, the Streak will get more consumer visibility next month when Best Buy begins stocking it in its retail shops.

Lenovo LePad

The Lenovo LePad tablet, dubbed the French-sounding LePad, will have a 10.1-inch touchscreen and....well, it's unclear what else.

Lenovo has promised the LePad will be available in China in December, followed by the U1 laptop portion in January. It's unknown when the LePad and its laptop dock will make the trip overseas to America.

Research In Motion PlayBook

The RIM PlayBook features a 7-inch screen, Flash-capable video and a front and rear high-definition camera. It's a thin tablet, at just 9.7 millimeters. RIM didn't reveal a price point for the tablet.

The tablet won't run on RIM's newly launched BlackBerry 6 operating system. It will instead be built around a new platform from QNX Software Systems, which RIM acquired earlier this year.

Samsung Galaxy Tab

The Galaxy Tab looks like a traditional tablet, with a seven-inch touchscreen that's saturated with color, thanks to a 1024 x 600 resolution LCD. Like the Dell Streak, the Galaxy will also make phone calls. The device includes two cameras -- one on the front, one on the back -- for video chatting.

The Galaxy Tab will run on the latest Android, version 2.2, but don't go shopping in the Android Market just yet. It's unclear how apps will scale up to the Galaxy's large screen -- or whether they'll be available at all.

Amazon takes a jab at the Apple iPad taking advantage of the biggest complaint regarding  one of reading on the Apple tablet while enjoying the great outdoors. The complaint is due to its high-resolution display screen, which is hard to read in the sunlight or while in other similar lighting situations.

"It's a Kindle. $139," she says, smiling. "I actually paid more for these sunglasses."

The new ad from Amazon, comes at a time some would say is vital for Amazon in order to establish its place in the continuously growing e-reader market, especially with the arrival of the new Amazon Kindle 3.

However, the Apple iPad -- starting at $499 -- is vastly more than just another e-reader but a more diverse device than the Kindle or Barnes and Nobile Nook. While promoting the iPads ability to serve as an e-reader, Apple has spent most of its advertising time pushing the iPad as a multi-purpose laptop/ tablet for the family ranging from children, business professionals, to the stay-at-home parent. Who wouldn’t want to place their iPad on a stand while displaying a recipe while preparing dinner? How convenient. With the ability to run numerous apps, surf the web, send email, prepare presentations, interact with social media applications, learn music, download the Kindle & Amazon app, and much more. It is to no surprise that Amazon would attempt to challenge the iPad in its ability to perform the very task(s) that the Kindle was specifically designed for. I’m thinking the iPad is the Kindle’s only promising competition, which does really say much for the BN Nook.

Although, it’s never good to throw stones in a glass house, come consumers have complained about the Kindle and it’s lack of performance in low-light. So why Amazon has boasted about the Kindle screen's ability to hold most impressively in sunlight due to the high-contrast electronic "dry" ink which works differently than LCD screens, which today can be found in laptops, and Apple’s iPad.

It just goes to show – maybe Apple will take note – that although the elephant has entered the room, sometimes the little giants remain relevant by taking action. With the release of the Apple iPad, Amazon announced price cuts which placed the Kindle in a  more affordable price range and possibly in more households than the iPad. Although some analysts predicted the iPad would conquer the market of popular e-readers, it definitely has its work cut out for it if Apple decides to push this feature as a selling point. Not to mention that the Kindle is now selling more electronic copies of books than hardcovers, I would love to see the numbers compared to paperback, since most people nowadays don’t really buy hardcover books as it is.

Now with the holiday season coming upon us, could it be possible that Amazon is working diligently to continue to dominate the e-reader market? After all, it would make sense for Amazon to push it’s popular brain child forward than to succumb to the high demands of the iPad and Apple trademark. So what happens when two powerhouses collide battling for market share of a popular growing market niche? Hell, at least people are reading again… but I digressed… The consumers ultimately win…
