Apple Inc.’s iPod Touch, first released in September 2007, is one of their most popular iterations in their line of ‘iPod’ portable media products to hit the market.  The iPod Touch receives its name through the addition of a touch-sensitive graphical user interface (doing away with the original iPod’s ‘circle wheel’ user interface) that provides a unique method of control while opening up new applications and new features that are impossible on the different iPod models.  Within two years on the market, the iPod Touch sold over 30 million units, a true testament to the unrivaled success of this particular model.

Marketed by Apple as a ‘pocket computer’, the iPod Touch has ways to accomplish every task that a traditional desktop Mac computer can, including the ability to play games.  Thanks to the touch screen GUI, there are many innovative entertainment options available on the App store for gamers, including games that have been ported over from dedicated video game consoles like the Nintendo DS, Sony’s PlayStation Portable, and even a few PC/Mac computer games.  Thanks to the built-in 256 MB of DRAM (the same amount as a PlayStation 3), the wide 3.5, 320 x 480 pixel screen, and an 833 MHz processor there are new, quite sophisticated gaming software Apps being released for the iPod Touch every week.  Apple has recently announced the free distribution of all future iOS (the shared operation system of iPhones and iPod Touches), yet some updated features are not available for 8 GB iPod Touch users (as the flash memory SSD space required is too large to fit).  With Bluetooth compatibility, rechargeable lithium batteries that offer up to 6 hours of video playback (or 30 hours of audio), a built-in audio speaker, and a study scratch-resistant glass screen the iPhone Touch is hard to pass up for the consumer that wants to have the absolute best in portable media functionality.
